🏆 The Game Awards

The Game Awards are the Oscars of the Gaming industry and were held last Thursday Dec 8th in LA. The show is more about all exclusive new game trailer premiers with a side of awards tbh. 

 God of War Ragnarök won plenty of awards throughout the night but it was Elden Ring that took home Game of the Year.

Some other notable events from the show:

• Al Pacino was there presenting the Best Performance award (which went to God of War)

• Christopher Judge (who won Best Performance) talked for like 10-15 minutes and delayed the rest of the show

• The cast of HBO's upcoming adaptation of The Last of Us were there as presenters

• Halsey did a live performance

• The only trailer anyone cared about was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

💰 Mirror Mirror on the Wall

The Mirror raised $2.3M in pre-seed funding for their new game development platform for indie game developers. This is more notable than most gaming related fund raising announcements given the round was led by none other than Founders Fund.

The Mirror is building their platform on top of the open source GODOT game engine and also incorporating a 3D asset store for user generated content.

I know what you're thinking... thank god this isn't a web3/NFT gaming play. 

WRONG.

Details are scarce but presumably their platform and asset store are meant to be web3 friendly. Distinguishing themselves from Unreal Engine & Unity.

Game development has gotten a lot easier over the past 10 years thanks to Unreal Engine & Unity. It'll be interesting to see if a new VC backed platform can disrupt this space any further.

👾 Mr. Beast joins Fortnite

Mr. Beast has had a heck of a year so far and to top off his wild success he's joining Fortnite. Checkout the announcement tweet here.
