Last week Epic Games launched Postparty, a clip-sharing app that enables Fortnite players to easily share their gameplay clips.

Gaming is the 2nd biggest niche on YouTube (music is #1) and creates a fly wheel of free marketing for video games. Epic Games is using Postparty to enable seamless capture, editing, and sharing of Fortnite clips to boost this user generated marketing channel.

In 2019 Epic Games acquired video chat app Houseparty and shut it down in 2021. It appears the team behind Houseparty is the same team that built Postparty. Sounds like it was always an acquihire situation.

TSM Hits $1,000,000 milestone

TSM is officially the first team to cross the $1,000,000 earnings mark in the Apex Legends Global Series eSports league.

Your first reaction should be… only $1,000,000?!?!

Well they’ve made slightly more overall, but with their $300K ALGS Split 1 championship win just over a week ago they’ve officially become the first team to surpass this crucial milestone. Here’s a breakdown of each team’s lifetime winnings:

Esports is not as lucrative as people believe with most earnings still coming from sponsorships. For reference the winner of this past weekend’s PGA 2023 WM Phoenix Open took home $3.8M.

🧙‍♀️ Hogwarts Legacy Launch

Hogwarts Legacy officially launched last Friday and the author of this newsletter is pissed cause he’s traveling the next 3 weeks and only got to play the initial opening sequence.

People talk a lot about giant AAA game studios like Riot Games, Respawn, 343 Industries, Activision Blizzard etc but you know who always gets lost in the conversation? WB Games.

You know… the makers of Lego Star Wars, Multiversus and many more.

In partnership with Avalanche Software, WB Games has given us something better than Lego Star Wars… the Hogwarts game we always deserved but never got.

Sales are also looking strong and according to GamesIndustry.biz’s calculations, Hogwarts Legacy has sold 80% more physical copies than Elden Ring did during its first week of sales last year.

Looks like the whole anti-JK Rowling campaign didn’t work.
